I am so excited to share with you my newly designed bedroom. I moved to a new apartment in January and had been planning my room design for a long time.
For me it was a wonderful process to play with colors and textures to create an overall feel for my room. Through, Joss & Main, West Elm, and, I was able to work some magic in my very own space even though I was on a budget.
My old room was awesome and I loved it for three years. But it was time for a change. So here it is people! I am so proud to show you!!!!!

My gallery wall is my pride and joy. I love pictures and love feeling surrounded by my friends and family. Even if they don't live so close, it feels like they are right there laughing with me.

The white and yellow concept was brand new to me. I've never been a huge fan of yellow but for some reason it just seemed right for 2013 - fresh, bright, and optimistic!

My getting ready spot in the morning... check out the kiddie pic of me hugging my cousin and my brother Kevin. :)

One of the best things about my room is the huuuuuuuge and beautiful window that overlooks DC. I love natural light and never close my blinds!

The details of my nightstand make me so happy. The picture is of me and my mom when I was in 5th grade. We had just painted my nails.

The green dragonfly box was a gift from my Aunt Nancy for my senior show in college.

The shot glass was from my dear friend Cathy from her trip to Italy. I just loved how the yellow played into everything.

And "How to be a Lady"... well I've been a long-time admirer of Audrey Hepburn ever since I played Eliza Doolittle in high school.

Hanging my jewelry on little hooks under my nightstand was the perfect way to save space but display it nicely! The little hooks were $5 from Targ and you can't even see them!

This is Baby Moo. She's been with me since college. I called my sister during my Freshman year to ask her what she was up to. She is 11 years younger than me so she was 7 and just the cutest.

Me: Hey babe what are you doing?
Julia: Oh just eating crackers with Moo-reen.
Me: I'm sorry... what?!
Julia: Moo-reen was hungry so we're eating.

Turns out she had named her cow stuffed animal Moo-reen because she missed me. I remember this phone call like it was yesterday. She was so adorable.

I will also say that Moo-reen was not flattering... this cow animal had a HUGE head and a teeny body. So there's that.

My Dad, Patti and Julia sent me Baby Moo that year as a present to keep me company in my dorm room. :)

Paperweight on my desk from Grandpa. Love this message!

Antique tea cup that was my great Aunt Catherine's!

I should mention also that I love my new trellace rug. Like so much. It was one of my more expensive purchase but fits perfectly and adds nice neutral color!

So that's my space!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I LOVE that desk. Where did you get it???

  2. What an amazing view you have- lucky! I agree with you about the color yellow. I was never a big fan, but I`m coming around to it. It does seem very fresh & modern.

    Some Snapshots Blog

  3. So many beautiful little details. What a lovely space.

  4. I saw your blog featured on SOML, and though I usually don't click through, my name is Maureen, I live in DC and I have recently started eating Paleo. So OBVIOUSLY I had to visit!

Love your apt! I love seeing what other people do with their tiny, city spaces. You are so lucky to have natural light - we have practically none right now and it bums me out!

  5. Omg! Sooooo adorable!!!! I just recently moved back to my mom's house because I am in grad school and trying not to take out any student loans, and one by one I've been changing it from my high school style haha. My aunt and uncle live in Alexandria and I went to visit them last May and DC is literally tied for first (NYC) for places that I've been. I absolutely love love love it there!! So jealous! Found ya on story of my life. You have a new follower in me :-)

  6. Just found your blog through SOML and it is so cute. I absolutely love your new room! I also live in the DC area and wish I were as organized as you.

  7. Your room is absolutely adorable! Your gallery looks perfect, I love pictures and I have a tendency to start creating spaces that look a little too "sorority bedroom" with hoards of photos, your gallery looks lovely though! Oh and speaking of sorority I love that you included you sorority paddle!

  8. Thank you all for your comments! I was SO EXCITED to share this with you!

The desk is from Crate & Barrel and is called the Sloan leaning desk. It was pretty economical and moved well when I switched apartments.

It also matches the shelf in my living room that I'm sharing today. :)

As far as a 'grown up room' goes... I just couldn't part with some of the details from growing up (i.e., Alpha Phi gear) haha. I still have all of my t-shirts too and want to make them into a quilt!

  9. Your room is gorgeous! I love all the colors and pretty little details.

I actually have the some sbux mug from friends in DC! I leave it at work and am drinking coffee from it right now :)

  10. Seriously so so cute! I have that same duvet in gray! Love it!
