Josh and I took an impromptu trip to Charlottesville last weekend and never stopped moving. Posts will be coming on hiking, and wine tasting, but first, check out our brewery tour of Starr Hill.
The brewery itself looks a little sketchy from the outside. It's basically a gravel parking lot and a warehouse-ish building. Did we sit in the car debating whether or not to go in? Maybe. But we went in and we were so glad we did!

We started off with a tasting and got to try some new brews. Josh and I initially started drinking Starr Hill when we tried The Love which is a German Hefeweizen. Check out the stats of The Love here.

I really liked seeing this chart while tasting to try to learn the differences between the brews. I am fascinated by why each beer tastes different and it's as much about ingredients as it is process.

Clearly I loved the Grateful Pale Ale. Be grateful!

After our tasting we took a tour of the brewery. It was really informative. Our tour guide, Dave, has volunteered there for years and was able to answer our questions not only about the brewing process but also Starr Hill specifically. There were only four of us on the tour, so Dave didn't even mind me asking 3,000 questions!

From hops to heaven!

After enjoying our beer at Starr Hill, Dave recommended that we try Duner's-- a local restaurant. He boasted that it was AMAZING food even though the atmosphere wasn't fancy at all. We loved this local little gem. It was a bit on the pricey side, but the food was soooo good we didn't even care!
The shrimp and grits appetizer was out of this world. If you're spending any time in Charlottesville, you must go here and try it!

  1. This place looks awesome! Maybe I'll have to convince Johnny to stop on our way home from the beach next week? Glad you had a blast!

  2. So glad you had a great time in Cville. I haven't been to Starr Hill mainly because I don't drink beer but it looks like a lot of fun.

  3. so funny be both went to beer tours on the weekend! :P
